Ah Vino! September and October are the months of the grape harvest and of the many celebrations dedicated to it. Abruzzo has a long history of wine making. It is the seventh most productive region in Italy. Taste the regions most popular wines such as the Montepulciano, Trebbiano and Pecorino wines as well as the Cerasuolo and Passerina varieties at a special wine-tasting at the nearby Margiotta Winery.

Day One
- Arrive in Rome airport. Transfer pick-up 2:30 pm (two hour drive to Abruzzo on the picturesque A24 Autostrada between Rome and the Apennine mountains, with its many tunnels)
- Settle in. Rest and Relax
- Gentle hike up to the nearby castle of Roccacasale for a spectacular view of the Peligna Valley
- Evening Aperitivo: wine, meats, and cheese in the garden gazebo while we go over your itinerary
- Enjoy a delicious breakfast cooked to order. Feast on breakfast pizza (egg, spinach, bacon and tomato) an freash coffee or tea
- Walk to the nearby vineyard where you will spend the morning picking the grapes with the local farmer.
- Lunch will be served in the vineyard
- After lunch, follow the grapes to the cantina where you will be shown the traditional process of wine making
- In the evening you will attend a fun-filled evening in the village piazza
- It’s time for a pancake breakfast served in the garden gazebo
- Board the van for a 45 minute drive to Lago di Scanno where the shape of the lake resembles a heart. You will have a short private tour of Scanno-an ancient village. Afterwards, you can walk around and see the local jewelers at work, taste the local cheeses and visit the famous bakery where they make almond cookies and chocolate brownies.
- Picnic Panini lunch on the lake and then return to La Rocca Mia House
- The evening is on your own: (transportation available) you are welcome to go with Domenico for a lively evening stroll in the village piazza.
- Rise and shine to a breakfast bar of cereals, yogurts and fresh fruit
- In the morning, you will try your hand at painting with wine with a local Italian artist. First we will reduce the red wine on the stove then using watercolor techniques you will produce your own wine masterpiece.
- Home-made Pasta Lunch by Domenico’s mother at the B&B
- Rest or Guilded Mountain Hike
- Evening 7:00 pm Wine Tasting
- This morning, you will experience a real Italian breakfast of freshly baked pastries and sweet cakes
- In the morning, head out for a trip to the open-air market in Sulmona where you can buy farm fresh fruits and vegetables, Abruzzi kitchen supplies, local cheeses and meats, clothing, accessories, herbs and spices, pasta, furniture, antiques and more. After the market there is plenty to explore in the village.
- Your lunch will be purchased at the market and then taken to the B&B for a relaxing meal under the gazebo
- In the afternoon, you will visit the famous Pelino Confetti Factory, where almond covered candies have been make for 230 years. These candies have been served at many a celebrity wedding. We will finish our Sulmona visit with an ice cream stop at Domenico’s favorite gelateria: Di Silvio’s!
- Leaving Party: Pizza and Prosecco at Il Carro, a family owned restaurant in the town of Pratola where you will taste the amazing pizzas and arrosticini (specialty of Abruzzo: lamb roasted on a skewer) served with wine or beverage of your choice.
- An early breakfast so that you can catch the van transfer to the Rome Airport
- Departure to airport at 6:00 am for arrival at Fiumicino Airport in Rome at 8:30 am
