Olive Harvest and Truffle Hunting Itinerary
at La Rocca Mia House B&B
Price: 1,200 Euros per person (Double Occupancy)
Day One
  • Arrive in Rome airport.  Transfer pick-up 2:30 pm (two hour drive to Abruzzo on the picturesque A24 Autostrada between Rome and the Apennine mountains, with its many tunnels)
  • Settle in.  Rest and Relax
  • Gentle hike up to the nearby  of Roccacasale for a spectacular view of the Peligna Valley
  • Evening Aperitivo: wine, meats and cheese in the garden gazebo while we go over your itinerary
Day Two
  • Enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast served with fresh fruit
  • Walk out to the olive grove where you will spend the morning picking the olives the traditional way, using a combing tool to rake the olives out of the trees, falling to a net to be collected before you move onto the next tree.  
  • A hearty lunch will be served either in the grove or in the garden gazebo.
  • After lunch, the olives will be taken to the press where you will be shown the process of pressing the olives to produce the oil.  This will be followed by an oil tasting.There will be a bottle of our oil from our day’s work, just for you.
  • The evening will be on your own to rest and relax after a hard days’ work.  Transportation will be available to the nearby villages.
Day Three
  • Feast on breakfast pizza (egg, spinach, bacon and tomato) and fresh coffee or tea served in the gazebo
  • Board the van for a 45 minute drive to the breathtaking landscape and castle of Rocca Calascio - Rocca Calascio is a small town in the Province of L’ Aquila. Behind it, you can admire the beauty of Campo Imperatore, a high grassland meadow and in front of it, you can see the wonders of the Majella and Sirente Mountains. Campo Imperatore is the highest town of central Italy.
  • Our three course lunch is nearby Rocca Calascio in the town of Castelvecchio Calvisio in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park
  • Return to the B&B La Rocca Mia House
  • Evening on your own (transportation available)
Day Four
  • Rise and shine to a breakfast bar of cereals, yogurts and fresh fruit
  • After breakfast, you will board the van for a trip to hunt for Truffles!  Using truffle dogs, search the forest for those hidden gems!
  • Lunch will be prepared by a 5 star chef who will be serving the truffles that you find.  Any truffles not used can be taken home.
  • Rest-afternoon on your own. 
  • In the evening, you will go to a Wine Tasting.  Tour one of the oldest cantinas’ in the Peligna Valley in the quaint town of Vittorito, population 850.  Here you will be able to actually step inside a giant wine vat covered with mosaic tiles.
Day Five
  • This morning, you will experience a real Italian breakfast of freshly baked pastries and sweet cakes
  • We will take a short, lovely trip to the open-air market in Sulmona where you can buy farm fresh fruits and vegetables, Abruzzi kitchen supplies, local cheeses and meats, clothing, accessories, herbs and spices, pasta, furniture, antiques and more.  After the market there is plenty of time to explore in the village.
  • Your lunch will be purchased at the market and then taken to the B&B for a relaxing meal under the gazebo
  • You will visit the famous Pelino Confetti Factory where almond covered candies have been made for 230 years. These candies have been served at many a celebrity wedding! We will finish our Sulmona visit with an Ice cream stop at Domenico’s favorite gelateria: Di Silvio’s.
  • Leaving Party: Pizza and Prosecco at Il Carro,  a family owned restaurant in the town of Pratola where you will taste the amazing pizzas and arrosticini (specialty of Abruzzo, roasted lamb on a skewer) served with wine or beverage of your choice.​
Day Six
  • Early Breakfast
  • Departure to airport at 6:00 am arriving at Fiumicino Airport at 8:30 am
